Empowerment
Having lived and worked in Central Australia for the past 11 years, we understand the challenges that people face when working with people who have been affected by trauma.
We also understand that professional supervision and support is not only helpful but often needed, alongside good self-care practices, to help reduce the risks associated with working with people whose lives have been impacted by trauma.
These risks include experiencing:
- vicarious or secondary trauma
- compassion fatigue, and/or
- burnout
Red Centre Healing acknowledges the prevalence and pervasive nature of trauma, stress and adversity that exists amongst the people living in Central Australia and aims to support organisations and individuals working here to provide best practice trauma informed and culturally responsive care.
Trauma Informed Supervision
- Provides a safe space for staff to develop and embed trauma informed and culturally responsive practice into all aspects of their work
- Appreciates, values, respects and celebrates that we are all unique individuals that bring into the workplace our own experiences, histories, relationships, life stories, values, hopes, motivations and biases
- Understands that we all have our own triggers, stressors or prickly parts that can be triggered, resurface or be re-enacted within the workplace; and as such, prioritises reflection, wellbeing and self-care
- Acknowledges the important role and protective function that having a safe space for reflection on regular basis plays, particularly when working with complex clients, within complex contexts
- Understands and acknowledges that when people have experienced trauma, adversity and toxic stress, they often function in survival mode, and are in a place of fear and high arousal, which can constrict and at times hijack their thinking
- Recognises that this process can be mirrored when working within systems and within Supervision; and so the safer one feels in Supervision, the more they will be able to think, learn, play, explore and develop
Trauma informed Supervision is a reciprocal relationship that aims to be collaborative, transparent and communicative and involves mutual learning, appreciation and respect.
